Yet he is on a mission to bring greater peace of mind to schools, hospitals, communities and even the military through secular meditation practices. Having reaped the benefits thereof in his own busy life as a politician, Congressman Ryan shares insights he has gained from scientists, meditation instructors and other inspirational figures in his book “A Mindful Nation.”
I was fortunate to meet and be inspired by Congressman Ryan on several occasions. He was particularly moved by the research I conducted on breathing practices (sudarshan kriya) for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with PTSD. I saw his eyes swell with tears when he heard the stories of their transformation. I am honored that Congressman Ryan chose to write a section of his book on this research.
